Thank you for your interest in the New York City chapter of The Satanic Temple.
Before contacting us directly about membership familiarize yourself with the material on the national TST website, particularly the tenets, the national organization’s FAQ, and information on existing TST campaigns. We expect you to be familiar with the core mission and beliefs of The Satanic Temple before inquiring about membership or involvement. (New Yorkers are busy people that have no choice but to ignore those that are wasting their time).
In addition to upholding the tenets and mission of the national organization, TST NYC as a local chapter is committed to maintaining an environment of respect and support both at in-person events and online. Misogyny, transphobia, racism, anti-semitism, ableism, or bigotry of any kind have no place in TST NYC.
We understand that everyone in NYC is busy, but being an active member of our chapter requires a modest time commitment. We have an in-person meeting approximately once a month, generally in Brooklyn or Manhattan, which members should make an effort to attend. In addition, we may ask members to commit a couple hours a week to various ongoing projects as needed. If you aren’t able to contribute to TST NYC at all due to distance or schedule, you might want to consider whether another chapter might be a better fit for you.
We are activists
Cultivating and developing our culture and community of the like-minded is important to us. But make no mistake, social activism and direct engagement in the public sphere is fundamental to our mission. If you are not interested in our causes please do not waste our time.
New to Satanism and/or the Left Hand Path?
You should minimally understand what TST is, and what TST is not. We are not an educational organization. We love to learn and share our knowledge with each other, but we are not here to teach you about Satanism. TST generously shares knowledge, resources, and original content through our sites and social media. We don’t expect you to be an expert, but we do assume you are self-motivated when it comes to learning. The more obvious it is that you are putting in effort to learn, the more likely it is that people will be willing to help you learn more. If you are not sure where to start, check out the following reading lists: TST NYC & TST National .
Coming from a Western LHP, esoteric, or initiatory inclination?
We are not an initiatory organization. We don’t have levels or degrees. We are not concerned with outdated binaries derived from century old Occidental misinterpretations and conflations of ancient Vedic soteriology. As Satanists we embrace our outsider status and take pride in our heterodox views, perceptions, and positive assertion of our values. As a 21st century emergence our lineage is rich and complex, with Classical, Enlightenment, Modernist, and Postmodern influences. Esotericism and occultism are in the mix, yet, our Satanism is derived from the Miltonic-Romantic and French Decadent literary traditions, and is thus primarily political, intellectual, and artistic at its core. Our community supports a diverse range of interests, and each member is encouraged to develop their personal practice/path.
I am not a Satanist, but I support what you do. Can I still join?
Maybe. We also have a lot of friends and allies that are not formal chapter members, but are part of our community.
I am too far away to join a chapter.
You can join TST and support our actions here: https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/join-us
I’ve done my homework and want to get involved with TST NYC. What’s next?
Referral from another member or ally is a great first start. We have a questionnaire for those that pass first contact.
What does it cost to join?
How can I visit the temple or attend a meeting?
We do not have a temple and do not offer public services of any kind. The Salem Art Gallery in Salem, MA is our HQ and is open to the public.
Meetings are private and for members only.
TST NYC hosts a few events a year that are open to the public as part of our ongoing fundraising efforts. They are announced and promoted via social media.
